TROIS BOURSES DOCTORALE 2017-2021
Le Centre de théorie politique de l’Université libre de Bruxelles offre, du 1 er octobre 2017 au 30 septembre 2021, trois bourses de doctorat dans le cadre du projet de recherche « Pourquoi Lefort compte ». Les candidats doivent être titulaires d’un master en science politique ou en philosophie (ou diplômes apparentés) à la date de début du contrat. Ils doivent faire parvenir avant le 1er juin 2017 au secrétariat du Centre de théorie politique (bvdabeel@ulb.ac.be) un curriculum complet (y compris les relevés de notes) et un projet de recherche doctoral de trois pages maximum. Ce projet de thèse doit impérativement s’inscrire dans au moins un des axes du projet de recherche « Pourquoi Lefort compte ». Les candidats retenus disposeront d’une bourse de 4 ans d’environ 1700 euros net/mois, d’un bureau partagé à l’ULB, d’un ordinateur et d’un budget pour leurs voyages et achats de livres. Ils doivent s’engager à résider à Bruxelles pour participer aux activités du Centre de théorie politique et devront assurer une charge d’enseignement (un séminaire de 24h/ an).
Pourquoi Lefort « compte »
Projet de recherche 2016-2021
Claude Lefort (1924-2010) peut être considéré comme un des principaux penseurs politiques de la fin du XXe siècle. Cependant, la littérature secondaire à son sujet demeure curieusement mince, notamment dans le monde non francophone. En dehors de quelques cercles, qui ont conscience du rôle « matriciel » de son œuvre, son triple apport à l’histoire des idées contemporaines, à la théorie de la démocratie et à la compréhension des enjeux actuels reste sous-estimé, voire ignoré. L’objectif de ce projet de recherche, qui combine histoire conceptuelle et théorie normative, est de pallier cette lacune. Ce projet n’a pas pour but de se livrer à une exégèse des écrits de Lefort ni de réaliser une biographie intellectuelle de ce dernier. Il s’agit plutôt de traiter l’œuvre de Lefort comme une « clé d’entrée » pour atteindre quatre objectifs.
Rendre compte de la complexité de l’histoire intellectuelle récente de la France
Deux dimensions se présentent ici. D’une part, l’apport conceptuel et historique de la pensée de Lefort a nourri un courant de pensée porté par l’exigence d’une démocratie dite « intégrale » ou « radicale », irréductible aux critiques libérales ou conservatrices du socialisme. D’autre part, la lecture proposée par Lefort lui-même d’un certain nombre d’auteurs du XIXe siècle permet une nouvelle compréhension de la pensée politique française dans son rapport à la Révolution.
Dessiner une forme de républicanisme soucieux d’une mise en forme du social
L’œuvre de Lefort, qui refuse de penser le lien de l’individuel et du social sur le mode d’une dichotomie et reste fidèle à l’idée machiavélienne de la positivité politique du conflit social, pourrait ouvrir la voie à une forme de républicanisme qui évite le rabattement du politique sur l’État-nation sans dénier pour autant le poids du social.
Penser l’articulation entre droits de l’homme et politique dans le monde contemporain
L’objet de ce volet de la recherche est de mettre à l’épreuve la capacité des réflexions de Lefort à fournir une pensée de la démocratie et des droits qui ne participe ni de l’utopie d’une auto-création du peuple dans son pouvoir constituant ni d’un libéralisme du marché dissociant les droits de l’autonomie politique.
Évaluer la pertinence du concept de totalitarisme pour analyser les enjeux actuels
Si la notion de totalitarisme reste aujourd’hui une arme rhétorique dans le débat public, que ce soit pour affirmer l’irréversibilité des acquis du libéralisme ou pour dénoncer la montée du terrorisme religieux, elle n’est pourtant plus guère interrogée par la théorie politique. Quelle est la pertinence des analyses élaborées par Lefort dans les années 1970 face au phénomène nazi puis soviétique pour appréhender les enjeux contemporains ?

Duration and Starting Date: 12 Months, starting on either September 1 st or October 1 st 2017, according to the fellows’ convenience.
The Centre for Advanced Studies “Justitia Amplificata: Rethinking Justice _ Appplied and Global”, funded by the German Research Council (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) and located at the University of Frankfurt with a branch at the Free University of Berlin is seeking to appoint three post-doctoral fellows in political theory/political philosophy for the academic year 2017/2018. The Fellows will be hosted by Frankfurt University at its Institute for Advanced Studies in Bad Homburg (near Frankfurt) and will be part of the Frankfurt academic community. They are invited to spend a certain period of time at the Free University Berlin for a research stay, details to be arranged.
Applicants are required to have completed all their PhD requirements (including exams) by the beginning of their fellowship and should have proven potential to conduct and publish research at an international level. Candidates’ research should fall within the Centre’s areas of focus, namely global justice and applied theories of justice.

Justitia Amplificata Post-doc Fellowships: Conditions of Award
We offer a non-taxable grant of 2300€/month. Additional benefits include a return trip to Frankfurt; a household allowance of 300€/month for accompanying partners (if the partner’s income is not higher than 1,250€/month) and a dependents’ allowance of 300€/month for each dependent child. Health insurance and accommodation expenses are not included in the package, although assistance in purchasing a suitable German health insurance will be provided.
Fellows will be provided with office space at the University’s Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at Bad Homburg ( Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften). Fellows who wish to live at the Institute will be offered the opportunity to rent one of the Institute’s flats (for more information, see: Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften).
Fellows will be expected to take an active part in the Centre’s activities and workshops, and to present their ongoing research to the members of the Centre in its research seminar. If budget and time allow it, fellows might have the opportunity to actively cooperate in some of the Centre’s research activities, including the organization of workshops and conferences.

Appointment
Based on a full-time appointment (38 hours per week) the gross monthly salary will range from €3,399 to €5,288 (scale 11 or 12) depending on experience. The salary will be increased by 8 % holiday allowance and 8,3 % annual bonus. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities is applicable. The appointment will be temporary for three years, with the prospect of a permanent appointment if the conditions for tenure are realized.

Required qualifications include: Ph.D. in Political Science or a related field, with a primary focus on questions of race or gender; demonstrated excellence or strong potential in research; and a commitment to teaching in a diverse environment. Candidates with the ability to empirically evaluate political theory regarding race or gender will also be considered. The nine-month tenure track position begins Fall 2017.
